You are officially a physical trainer or perhaps you are thinking about becoming one. What happens after you are certified? How do you actually get clients? This can seem like a daunting task and overwhelming to a lot of people. All the time, energy and effect put into being a personal trainer and a lack of clients can stop anyone dead in their tracks. Taking a small amount of time to reach out to potential clients has giant rewards. The best ideas are below for all those needing a little kick start.

Start off by identifying the reason you chose personal training. Whether it is to help people reach their goals or to spread a message of health and awareness, this is the core reason you chose personal training. Maintain focus on this core reason to ensure you stay aligned with what you truly desire.

Magnet Car Banner

The number of people you can reach is massive. Stuck in traffic and the guy next to you looks over, sees your information and calls you the next day. It really is as simple as that. Magnet banners can be purchased online and cost about $6 each. It might be a good idea to put one on each side of the car. If you have a spouse or a friend ask them if they are willing to add magnet banners to their car.

Local parks

Attract some attention to yourself by working out in a public park that is usually busy or a fitness hotspot. Allow people to come to you or offer a conversation starter to anyone who stops to look at what you are doing. Have some business cards ready and casually start conversations while handing out your business card. Offer free advice to anyone who is open to it. People love free advice and trials so give them a little teaser and leave them lingering for more.

Instagram

Create an Instagram page solely for your training. Post about health, diet, routines or product reviews. Create content that is valuable and meaningful without seeming inauthentic. Reach out to other fitness accounts and see if you can get a feature on their page. Check out followers of big fitness pages and follow them in hopes of getting a follow back. The more active and the more content you offer the more people will gravitate to the page and start interacting. Learn how to monetize Instagram followers so that affiliate opportunities, paid memberships and merchandise sales become options.

YouTube

It is easy to create workout routine videos on YouTube to share your passion with the entire world. Highlight proper form, how-to videos, and product reviews so that viewers trust the information they receive. Another way to optimize this is to link Instagram with Youtube to maximize exposure. It will take a few months to gain momentum on Youtube but videos are available for as long as they are posted. This means that a video from 3 years ago can generate income today.

Udemy

Udemy is an online platform that offers paid courses to people. Anyone can create a course. It will take some initial effort to create the course and set it up but once that work is done you can sit back and collect the profits. Udemy does take a high commission but if you drive traffic to your own course through discount codes, Udemy hardly takes any percentage. Advertise this course on social media and send people there using a code so that profits are maximized.

Craigslist

Write up a small ad and post it on Craigslist. Ads are free depending on how you categorize them and people search Craigslist all the time for services. Yes, there are scammers on there but most people use the site in legitimate ways. It is a great promotional tool especially since it is free and very easy to make a posting. Write up a little blurb, link social media accounts such as Youtube, Instagram, an Facebook and wait for clients to be in contact.

Flyers

Get creative and make some advertising flyers and hang them up around local areas like libraries, gyms, coffee shops, and community boards. There are many free sites available that offer templates such as canva.com. Enlist a friend or family member to help if being creative is not a strong point. Some places will require permission to hang flyers so just ask a manager or someone in charge first.

Free Classes

Hold a free class in a local park once a month. Advertise this locally through community websites, Facebook, flyers, Instagram or YouTube and hold a free class in a park. This draws in prospective clients and gives you the opportunity to sell additional services. Even if people only ever attend the free class it is only a matter of time before they set health goals for themselves. The person they will choose to help them will be someone they trust. Someone who they have already established a relationship with and that person will be you.

Virtual services

Once you have an Instagram or YouTube set up, begin to advertise paid services such as meal plans, weekly routines or personalized video sessions. Marketing yourself virtually opens you up to an endless number of clients. Build a membership email list and release weekly videos. One video a week can produce substantial returns. Create different membership levels at increased prices. With more per month, patrons receive more value. Perhaps personalized sessions or coaching. You can also build a course and sell it through Udemy or Patreon.

Lastly

Be sure to market yourself in several different ways as many marketing tools are linked. Plus, this diversifies and maximizes client potential. Don’t depend on one or two ways to produce results. A few from here and a few from there add up if you open enough streams. Additionally, never underestimate the power of word of mouth, so make sure friends and family know you are looking for clients and to pass along your information.
